The Competitive Edge.

The Insiders lost a potential raider yesterday, not because he was a bad player, but because he refused to enchant, gem, and flask. Now, I know what your thinking, but he left, we did not kick him. We did however refuse to make him part of the raid on that night because he was unprepared. The biggest problem I have with this is that his refusal to be prepared was out of sheer ignorance, we have max level enchanters that will occasionally give out free enchants, just send them the mats between requests. We have jewel crafters who cut gems for free, and getting an epic gem is easy. (Honor, badges, or even an alchemist transmute are easy to come by) Speaking of our guild alchemists, they will make flasks for anybody, my alt makes them and all I ask is for a Frost Lotus for two flasks. (I provide the rest of the mats) So why would anybody not be prepared for a raid?

Well in this persons case he thought he was better than everybody else. He thought he was too important to be replaced. We not only replaced him, we replaced this healer with a dps and ran through the first four bosses of ICC as if nothing was wrong. (and VoA ten man, and the weekly raid quest) Will we miss having this guy? Maybe. Will he miss being in our group? Probably not. Did he learn the lesson I was hoping he would learn? I am sure he didn’t.

The point is Enchants, Gems, and Flasks is about giving you the competitive edge. Can you get by without them, sure you can, but having these proves to the rest of the group that you want to be at your best. Don’t lose site of the fact that you are raiding with nine or twenty-four other people who don’t want to waste their time. Provide your group with your best and they can’t say you are wasting their time.

Firefighters often seek after this competitive edge not just to help their team, but to help their community. Firefighters train to improve how much time they can get out of an SCBA bottle. They do weight lifting to increase the amounts they can lift. They run to improve how long they can last during the fire. They do all these things to make it so that they have a better chance of making a rescue, if necessary. We do this because you are counting on us to do it. Could you imagine what would happen to a firefighter if he didn’t do this for his team? Well, lets just say he probably wouldn’t be a firefighter anymore. He would be replaced by somebody who did care enough to give his best for the team.

So give your team your best. Enchant, gem, and flask for every raid. Show your team that you are really serious about performing as part of their team.

Until next time,

Don’t stand in the fire.
