Prevention is key.

Firefighters put a lot of stock in prevention. In fact one of the major U.S. federal grant programs for fire department funding is focused specifically on fire prevention. I personally care about it enough that I am a certified Fire and Life Safety Educator, which means I took a two-day class on how to teach people fire prevention. (very few firefighters actually have this certification, I am the only one on my department that does) Sun Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher wrote in “The Art of War” that the best way to win a war was to avoid fighting it in the first place. Firefighters believe the same thing about fires. If we can teach people to be fire safe then we don’t have to worry about the loss of life and property that are associated with fire. Firefighters are the only business that are actively trying to put ourselves out of work.

So what does this have to do with your gaming? Well actually not much. Preventing as much incoming damage as possible will keep your healers happy. Preventing that damage will help the success of your raid team. The Rotface fight in ICC is a good example of this. (don’t stand in the slime spray) An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Since I am now on my Public Service Announcement: Don’t play with matches and lighters (keep them up if you are an adult), check the batteries in your smoke detector at least every six months (this means you Lucio), don’t use water on a grease fire (get a kitchen fire extinguisher instead), always have an evacuation plan and share that plan with your kids.

I recommend everyone go visit their local burn center to help drive this stuff home. Bring a few blankets to donate to the center, burn victims often have trouble regulating their body temperature and these blankets can come in handy.

Until next time,

Don’t stand in the fire. (Literally)
